ShaveMe collects nothing about you. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, and no analytics. The developer operates no server and receives no data from the app. Your photos and your face data stay on your device.
The three reference photos you take are stored in ShaveMe's own database on your device. They are never uploaded, never transmitted, and never seen by the developer or anyone else. Removing a photo in the app deletes it from the device. Deleting ShaveMe deletes all of them.
ShaveMe asks for camera access only when you tap "Take photo", and for photo-library access only if you choose an existing image instead. It uses that access for nothing else.
ShaveMe processes face data entirely on your device. Face data is never transmitted off the device, never shared with anyone, never sold, and never used to identify you.
What is detected. When you take or choose a photo, or open the live camera view, ShaveMe measures face landmark geometry from that image: a set of coordinate points marking where facial features sit within the picture — jawline, chin, mouth, nose, eyes, brows and hairline. It is purely a set of positions describing the shape of the face in that one image. ShaveMe does not create a faceprint, face template or biometric signature, does not perform face recognition or face matching, and cannot determine who you are from this data.
How it is used. For one purpose only: to align the selected shave or beard style's cut lines to your face, so the overlay sits correctly on your jaw and chin instead of floating over the picture. Face data is used for nothing else. It is not used for identification or authentication, not for advertising, not for analytics or measurement, not to train or improve any model, and not for any purpose beyond drawing that overlay.
Where it is processed. Entirely on your device, inside the app. The face detection model (MediaPipe Face Landmarker, an open-source library) is bundled inside the app and loaded from local storage — it is not downloaded at runtime. Your photos and camera frames are analysed by that model on the device itself. No photo, no camera frame and no landmark coordinate is ever uploaded. No cloud service, remote server or server-side vision API is involved at any point, and none exists to receive it.
Storage and retention.
Deletion. You control it entirely. Removing a photo in ShaveMe immediately deletes that photo and its landmark coordinates from your device. Deleting the app removes all of them. Because face data is never uploaded, no copy exists anywhere else — there is no server-side record, backup or archive of it, with us or with anyone else.
Sharing and third parties. None. Face data is never shared with the developer, with Apple, with Google, with any advertiser, analytics provider, data broker or any other third party. It never leaves your device, so there is no recipient and no third party with access to it. ShaveMe does not sell face data, does not share it for advertising, and does not use it for tracking across apps or websites. No third party receives face data in any form.
For completeness, and so nothing here overstates the case: the bundled face-detection library (Google's MediaPipe Tasks Vision, which runs locally) sends one small diagnostic ping to Google when the face engine starts, and periodically while it is loaded. It is a few dozen bytes and contains only the library's own version number, which task was run ("face landmarker"), and how long the engine took.
It contains no photo, no camera frame, no landmark coordinates, no face data of any kind, no device identifier, no account and nothing about you or your use of the app. This ping is built into the third-party library rather than added by ShaveMe, and it carries none of your data — but it is a network request, so it is disclosed rather than glossed over.
ShaveMe Pro is a one-off in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; ShaveMe never sees your payment details, your Apple ID, or your name. The app records only a single yes/no flag on your device saying that the purchase was completed, so Pro keeps working offline.
ShaveMe opens a web page only when you tap a link. The jonathanscribbles.com link opens in an in-app browser; every item in the Kit section opens amazon.com in your device's own browser, outside the app.
These are outbound links, not services ShaveMe connects to. The app sends nothing with them beyond the tap itself — no identifier, no profile, nothing about your photos or which styles you looked at. Once Amazon's site is open in your browser, Amazon's own privacy policy and cookies apply, exactly as they would if you had typed the address yourself.
Kit links are Amazon Associates affiliate links. They carry a tracking tag identifying ShaveMe as the referrer, so if you buy something Amazon pays a small commission — at no extra cost to you. The tag identifies the app, not you.
As an Amazon Associate, ShaveMe earns from qualifying purchases.
ShaveMe does not sell, stock or ship anything, and receives no information from Amazon about what you did or did not buy.
ShaveMe is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
