ChordLoop — Privacy Policy

ChordLoop is designed to respect your privacy completely. The app collects nothing unless you choose to join a music teacher's studio, with a code or by inviting your teacher, and even then it sends only what that teacher needs to see that you practised.

What we collect

Nothing, by default. Specifically:

• No account or sign-in is required to use the app.
• We do not collect analytics, usage data, or diagnostics.
• We do not access your contacts, location, microphone, photos, or files.
• Chord progressions you save are stored only on your device, never uploaded.
• The app works fully offline and sends nothing over the internet until you join or invite a teacher (below).
• We do not use third-party advertising, tracking, or analytics services.

Studio with a teacher

If a music teacher gives you a six-letter code and you type it into Settings › Studio with a teacher together with a first name, the app connects to our studio server (chordloop-studio.onrender.com) and from then on:

• The server stores the name you typed and a random token that identifies this app install. No email address, no account, no device identifiers.
• Your teacher's loops for the week are downloaded to the app.
• Each practice run of 20 seconds or more is sent to your teacher: which loop, how many passes, the tempo you started and finished at, how long you played, and when. Nothing else — no audio, no recordings, no location.
• Only your teacher can see this, on their own page. Your teacher may enter a parent's email address to receive a short weekly summary of the same information.

Inviting your teacher. If you have no code, Invite your teacher sends the first name you type to the studio server and gives you a link to share with your teacher however you like (the app only opens your phone's share sheet). The link shows your teacher that first name. If they sign up through it, you join their studio automatically, as above. Cancel the invite in Settings and the server deletes it; unused invites expire after 60 days.

Tap Leave the studio in Settings at any time: the app forgets the code and the token, and your teacher no longer sees anything new. To have past practice records deleted from the server, ask your teacher to remove you, or email us.

In-app purchases

ChordLoop offers an optional one-time purchase, “ChordLoop Pro,” and an optional subscription, “ChordLoop Studio.” Purchases, renewals and restores are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details, and buying either collects no personal information within the app.

Your choices

Outside a teacher's studio, ChordLoop collects no data, so there is nothing to access, correct, export, or delete on our side. Removing the app from your device removes any progressions you saved. Inside a studio, Leave the studio stops all sending, and an email to the address below gets your records deleted.

Children

ChordLoop is safe for all ages. A child can use the app without any data being collected. A child joins a teacher's studio only with a code the teacher gives out or by inviting their own teacher, with a first name only, and the teacher and the child's parent are the only people who see the practice records.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
